Ruby – The Stone of Passion and Power
Radiating with an inner fire, the Ruby has long been known as the “King of Gemstones.” Its deep, vivid red symbolizes love, courage, and vitality. Ancient cultures believed rubies contained the essence of life itself — a drop of the heart’s blood solidified into stone.
Origin and Formation
Rubies are a variety of the mineral corundum, colored red by traces of chromium. They form under intense heat and pressure in metamorphic rocks, emerging after millions of years as crystals of pure brilliance. Some of the world’s finest rubies come from Myanmar (Burma), Mozambique.
Color and Quality
The most prized rubies display a pure, rich red often referred to as “pigeon’s blood” — neither too dark nor too light, with a vibrant glow that seems to come from within. Clarity also plays a major role, though inclusions (known as silk) can actually enhance a ruby’s character and light diffusion.
Symbolism and Uses
In ancient India, rubies were believed to bring peace among enemies. Today, they remain a symbol of passion, strength, and prosperity — a favorite choice for engagement rings and heirloom jewelry.
